Up until the end of July, Honduran agricultural activity registered an 8.4% drop, especially in banana, African palm, melon, watermelon, and sugar cane as a result of the adverse effects left by tropical storms Eta and Iota, which hit the country in November of last year.
Tubers, vegetables, pineapples, and coffee showed an increase associated with domestic demand.
The agricultural production is part of the activities of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, and Fishing, which, between January and the end of July, had decreased by 4.8% as a whole (-4.9% in the same period of 2020).
Honduras has managed to diversify its export basket, boosting crops such as coffee, palm oil, bananas, melons, watermelons, tubers, and vegetables. Currently, agricultural exports account for more than 50% of total exports.
