Global fruit production amounted to around 883.4 million tons in 2019, an increase of around 1.4% on the previous year. While Europe recorded declining yields of - 8.7%, Asia further expanded its supremacy as the world's largest fruit producer with a 2.6% growth. This is reported by AgrarMarkt Austria (AMA) in comprehensive statistics.

The People's Republic of China is by far the most important fruit producer in the world. In particular, melons, apples, pears and citrus is cultivated there. India covers the national and international market with bananas and a wide range of tropical fruits. The global production area for fruit cultivation in 2019 was around 65 million ha, stable (+1.7%) at the previous year's level.
Asia hosts the largest share of acreage with 57%, followed by Africa (20%) and Europe (12%).
