The Lady Alice apple was discovered as a chance seeding by a Rainier ranch manager back in 1978 but didn’t enter supermarkets until 2010. “Lady Alice is having a fantastic year,” says Mark Zirkle, President at Rainier Fruit. “It has been a unique year for growing any variety, but the coloring and quality of the Lady Alice apples that are coming into the packing line are some of the best-looking we’ve ever seen,” he added.
According to Zirkle, Lady Alice is not only beautiful, but has a unique flavor due to the sweet and slightly acidic balance of the apple. "Lady Alice’s tagline is ‘The Perfectly Balanced Apple’ and that truly is the case,” he commented. “There’s the perfect balance of sweet with a touch of tartness to balance with the most satisfying snap.”

100% organic
Harvest of Lady Alice began mid-September following a perfect late summer growing season. The last few weeks of summer had cooler temperatures that colored the fruit beautifully. Due to growing demand for organic, Rainier has transitioned from growing both conventional and organic to growing Lady Alice 100 percent organically. The variety is available roughly mid-September through early summer.
