Peruvian blueberries continue to arouse the interest of Chinese consumers and it is possible that they will position themselves in China's top 10 most demanded products this year, said the head of Fairs of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Shirley Pulache Garcia.
In 2020, with shipments to the Asian nation for $ 73,979,000 and representing 0.6% of the total, that berry was ranked 11th.
Chinese importers expressed their interest in Peruvian blueberries at the business conference held on the B2Perú platform. This conference was held within the framework of the Virtual Food Expo 2021 and had the support of the Peruvian Foreign Trade Offices (OCEX) in Shanghai and Beijing.
"This was a very important activity as it helped to position and increase our food offer to China, a destination that is also prioritizing the consumption of fresh products due to the pandemic," Pulache stated.
The representatives of the eight buyers that participated in the business conference -Al International, Foshan Delight Wines and Food, Golden Green Health Technology, Huangshan Yahe Import & Export Trading, Itaste Food Ningbo, Nanjing Bonagro Trading, Qinguo Import & Export Trading, and South American Express China- held business meetings with different Peruvian companies.
They met with Frutinka del Peru, Roots Foods, Pronasel (Selected Nature Products SRL), Peru Origins, Mercado Uno, Solid Food Peru, Shanantina, Perunor SAC, Kiria Foods, Alisur, Central de Cooperativas Agrarias Cafetaleras de los Valles de Sandia (Cecovasa), and with the Asociation of Fruit and Avocado Producers of the Limatambo Valley (Aprofrut).
They also held meetings with the Valle del Inca Agrarian Association of Cusco (Valleinca), Falara Trading, Natur Foods Export, Agro Fergi, Mar Azul Export, Earthfructifera, AAC- Innalsa, Agro Industrias Monpe, Amauta's Business, and Peruvian Inka Fruit SAC.
Risk
According to Susana Yturry, the manager of ADEX's Agroexports, even though the Asian country is interested in the national supply, Peruvian exporters are concerned due to the increase in maritime freight, as it has increased fivefold. In fact, this increase even discouraged a great number of companies from participating in the business conference.
“They know the difficulties of meeting the average export times. There are no containers and those that are available require very high freight payments. If this situation continues, there is a possibility that exporters make smaller shipments abroad,” she commented.
To consider
According to data from the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, food shipments to China between January and September totaled 413,183,000 dollars, i.e. 107.3% more than in the same period of the previous year.
