Futurpera - there's hope to relaunch the sector

The climate at Futurpera could not but reflect the current situation of the pear segment, but there is hope things will improve. The event, which took place in Ferrara between December 2nd-4th, must represent a fresh start, just like survivors need to start from scratch after a nuclear war.

CSO president Paolo Bruni commented by saying that "this edition of Futurpera took place during one of the worst period for Italian pear cultivation. A production drop of 70% had never been seen before. Nonetheless, a lot of exhibitors took part and hundreds of people attended the conventions, a testimony to their will to continue investing in this sector."

"I hope the information we were able to provide on risk, climate change, research, biotechnologies, agriculture 4.0, insurance, new commercial strategies and much more were useful to help Italian pear cultivation."

Futurpera does not deal with huge numbers, but it provides help on a regional and domestic level. Ferrara Fiere Congressi president Andrea Moretti added that "the interest for an event is not always given by the number of visitors. We are pleased with the amount of people who attended, because organizing an event during this period is very difficult. In addition, there was a lot of interest for the topics discussed and solutions presented by the various companies."

"80% of businesses came from the Emilia-Romagna area and I would like to thank them, because choosing to take part in an event for a segment that is going through such a crisis is brave. Actually, it's a challenge we have all chosen to accept because we are convinced pears should remain a leading product for our territory. At Ferrara Fiere, we are ready for the next edition, because fairs such as Futurpera are essential to promote the economy and occupation."

The fair was organized by Ferrara Fiere Congressi, CSO Italy (the main partner) and OI Pera – Organizzazione Interprofessionale Pera. The event also had the support of the Ministry for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy, Regione Emilia-Romagna, the Ferrara municipality and the Ferrara Chamber of Commerce and was sponsored by Bper Banca and VH Italia Assicurazioni, among others.
