"The first French production was put on the market on June 16 and will be available until the end of October," reports Amélie Tacon Santos, Food Chain Manager at Sakata Vegetables Europe. This new variety of broccoli was already available in France last year in the Cash&Carry, and it is now available in supermarkets and convenience stores: "Consumers will be able to find it either among products of the 4th range in 180g or 200g format or the fresh fruit and vegetable section. Larger packages are offered in Cash&Carry such as 400g or 800g.
Bimi® Broccoli: the only long-stem broccoli
Although the German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and English already know it well, this brand new variety of vegetable is currently trying to conquer the heart of the French: "It is a novelty that goes beyond the brand. Bimi® Broccoli is the name we have given to this small vegetable for the European market. A simple name that suits it well as it means "delicious" in Japanese. In England, Bimi® Broccoli is offered under the name Tenderstem®, for "Tender Stem".
Bimi® Broccoli has been naturally bred using traditional plant breeding techniques to provide consumers with a delicious edible stalk full of nutrients and flavor. It is a small vegetable that stands out for its tenderness and delicate nutty flavor.
Great versatility of preparation
Another interesting aspect is the variety of ways it can be eaten: "It can be steamed, roasted, sautéed or even eaten raw. It is a vegetable that can be cooked in all its forms and in a minimum of time. This corresponds very well to the needs of the French market: eating healthy but with a limited preparation time. We also feel that this is a vegetable that people seem to like. We have received positive feedback from all the customers who have tried it."
