Greg Akins with Catalytic Generators about IFPA’s upcoming global show

“This could be the best produce show ever held in North America”

From October 27 until October 29, the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) will organize the Global Produce & Floral Show in Orlando, Florida. It is the first time the show is being held since PMA and United Fresh merged into IFPA on January 1, 2021. Greg Akins of Catalytic Generators is one of the event’s 950 exhibitors and discusses his expectations of the event. His company offers ethylene ripening solutions as well as produce testing supplies through its sister company QA Supplies. Products are available worldwide.

In-person meetings
“We are very excited about this year’s show,” Akins said. “I believe this could be the best fresh produce show ever held in North America,” he added. First, there was the inability for the organization to hold shows the last two years and in addition, it is the first time the event is organized by the new IFPA organization.

“I expect people are looking forward to seeing each other in person and finding out what this new event has in store for them.” The pandemic certainly hampered most of Catalytic Generators’ staff to see customers outside of the US. “With travel restrictions mostly lifted, we are eager to see many of our global customers and friends that we hear are making the trip to Orlando. With the pandemic subsiding and travel resuming, this should make this year’s show one of the best, it not the best.”

For Catalytic Generators, it is the biggest show of the year, in terms of number of clients as well as meeting with potential new customers. “While there are other large fresh produce shows in the world, this show brings in a substantial, worldwide audience and many are looking to solve postharvest issues that we offer solutions for,” said Akins. “Whether it is a simple temperature monitoring need, fruit maturity issue, or complex ethylene application for ripening, we have solutions for every requirement,” he added.

The company is gearing up for the event by having extra staff on hand and many products on display. In 2019, at PMA Fresh Summit in Anaheim, a newly designed booth was unveiled. “It features an improved display of our products and enables us to show more of our instruments without overcrowding the space.” The teams of Catalytic Generators and QA Supplies are eager to use the booth for just the second time and expect good success with it in Orlando.

Trying out new instruments
Attendees looking for safe ethylene solutions as well as produce testing supplies will be able to see and try out many different instruments at booth #970. “We will bring a large variety of our instruments so that visitors can try them out and choose what works best for their individual application. Everything from pulp thermometers to different firmness testers, refractometers for Brix/sugar testing as well as all our ethylene generators will be on display.” New on display from QA Supplies will be a digital refractometer, a wireless data logger, a blueberry firmness meter, the new Auto-ripe ethylene generator, and more.
