Coconut production in Indonesia increases yearly steadily

It is well known that Indonesia has the highest coconut production in the world. “We process more than 1,500 hectares of coconut plantations, spread across several islands in Eastern Indonesia. For now we are exporting semi husked coconuts to Malaysia and Singapore. These coconuts are freshly hand-picked within 60 days.” Irfan Saeful Bahri from Arecaland Coco told Freshplaza.

Indonesia has a yearly coconut production of more than 21.5 million tons. In the future, it is expected this will continue to grow steadily due to several different factors. Firstly, Indonesia has a typical tropical climate with an annual average temperature of above 25 ℃. Secondly, the labor cost is relatively low. Thirdly, the government keeps implementing various policies to promote the coconut industry.

Although Indonesia is the biggest coconut producer, however, it is not the biggest exporter. The country which exports most each year is the Philippines.

When talking about this, Irfan Saeful Bahri explained, “Indonesia has a large population and most of the coconuts are sold domestically. In addition, with the rapid development of the coconut oil industry in Indonesia, the demand for coconuts has been increasing sharply in the last few years as well. Altogether, fewer coconuts are left to be exported."
