He grew up in New York City, didn’t have any contacts in the agricultural industry, and had never been to a farm. But after selling a successful business at age 63 and being introduced to BountiGel, he saw the transformational potential of the product and decided he had to launch Carbon Neutral Ag Sciences. Paul Goldberg discusses how his company and, more specifically, his product BountiGel® helps growers around the world to increase yields with less water and less fertilizer.
BountiGel® is a next-generation ag-specific soil amendment that significantly reduces the use of water and fertilizer, two costly farm inputs. BountiGel is added to the soil with traditional equipment and remains in the root zone, keeping the root zone moist between irrigations and preventing fertilizer and other nutrients from migrating away. “The gel basically anchors nutrients in the root zone and remains effective for up to three years.” Since water and nutrients are kept in the root zone, plants germinate more successfully, are less stressed, survive better, grow larger, and yield more. “The results are so convincing that the company is currently running a test with the University of Arizona to successfully grow crops in previously unproductive, sandy soil. “We believe that there is a huge global opportunity to turn unproductive land into fertile farmland with the help of BountiGel,” mentioned Goldberg.

Compostable
Now, new information on the benefits of BountiGel has become available. “We have proof that our product is compostable as well as bio-degradable,” Goldberg shared. BountiGel was certified as compostable by the foremost authority, the Compost Manufacturing Alliance. “Unlike other hydrogel products, the product breaks down naturally, not leaving any plastics or residuals behind,” he said. While the product can be used with any crop or ornamental and is already being used by growers around the world, this new information will expand the product’s reach even further.
Partnership with fertilizer companies
In addition, Carbon Neutral Ag Sciences has been exploring a partnership with a major producer of fertilizer to combine their product with BountiGel. BountiGel’s granular form allows it to be mixed with other granular inputs like NPK fertilizer. “This approach is particularly useful for growers who want to add both fertilizer and a water-saving product simultaneously while avoiding over-compaction of their soil by equipment,” shared Goldberg. “The combination performed exceptionally well, and going forward, it is our belief that many types of traditional inputs – fertilizer, seed, biostimulants -- will be combined with a water-saving component.”
