This year, the Chinese New Year will take place from 22 January which is much earlier than in previous years. "Approaching the Chinese New year, the demand from China for Indonesian mangosteen has started to increase. We hope that demand will continue to increase in the coming 2 weeks." Chintya Tjoeng, CEO of Frozens Fruits, told Freshplaza.
Chintya Tjoeng stated, “Comparing with Dec, the current price of Indonesian mangosteen has increased 30%. At this moment, the most popular sizes on the Chinese market are 4a, 5a and 6a. The overall good quality of Indonesian mangosteen in this season and the approach of Chinese New Year are the main reasons for the increasing demand."
When being asked if the easing of Covid related measures in China is also contributing to the positive price change, she confirmed: “Definitely. In the last 3 years, Covid has hindered us in terms of market demand and logistics in different perspectives. We are really happy to see that nearly all Covid related measures have been lifted by now."
