The first commercial shipment of 550 kg of GI-tagged Puranadar figs from India was successfully sold to Hong Kong by a farmer producer firm in the Purandar taluka of Maharashtra's Pune district.
Director at Purandar Highlands Rohan Ursal stated that they will now investigate exports to Malaysia and other nations. Due to the highly perishable quality of the fruit, the market for purandar figs is relatively small.
Notwithstanding the continued strong demand, Ursal stated that they have committed to offering between 450–550 kg of export-quality figs each week. He said that orders for exports to Malaysia had also been received.
