A potato mission in Kendrapara, India has let farmers down due to low prices. A lack of storage facilities has forced farmers to sell their harvest for next to nothing.
Local farmers have planted potatos on 30 000 hectares but the problems with storage means they cannot hold off until prices improve. They criticised the local government's potato mission, which was luanched in 2015 to make them less reliant on other states for tuber plants.
The district also does not have 1 cold storage unit forcing farmers to sell to local traders for whatever price they can get.
