Capitan Piña, a pineapple grower from Panama has seen increased orders from Spain. The owner, Ing. Eliezer Dominguez says: “Our expectations for this 2023 is to grow as a company in production, because we have an open market that is expanding and looking pretty good. Actually, we are focused on Spain, which is a good and flexible market. Prices are for maritime pineapples at $8 per box FOB in Panama and for air pineapple around $11. We had other markets in France for air pineapples and prices went around $11.50-$12.00 per Box FOB in Panama.”

Capitan Piña (Captain Pineapple) is a brand new company that started as a spin-off from a family business producing pineapples for more than 20 years. Founded by Ing. Eliezer Dominguez who is a former Mariner, once he retired from the ships he decided to move into the farming field taking the name of the company from his previous career.
“We used to farm three hectares annually and this year (2023) we have grown to 20 hectares of production. We have eight permanent employees and indirectly we offer jobs to other workers during some seasons when the demand increases. Our farm is located in the District of La Chorrera, in a small town called Las Zanguengas, where its fame has grown because it is where you can find the best pineapple in Panama,” Dominguez proudly claims.
“We are exporting 75% of our production to Spain which is a very friendly country in terms of business. A small percentage is placed in France. We are interested in consolidating clients and we feel very confident with the relationship established with Spain. Moreover, we are open to grow in other countries such as France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, expecting they can try our quality product. Capitan Piña is not the biggest company providing pineapples, but one thing we can assure, it's the quality of our product. The sweetness and durability of our pineapples can be described through our motto, ‘Our brand is the quality we produce’. Perhaps, Panama is not well known as a country for exporting huge volumes of pineapples, but it's a place where the quality of our product speaks for itself,” concludes Dominguez.
