Lovita®, the red-fleshed, heart-shaped plum, is entering its third South-African season. “It has already arrived in Europe, and the quality promises to be very good this year, with a high sugar content,” explains Monika Kujundzic, communication manager for Lovita®. “We are now very close to what we get in France, so much so that it is becoming very difficult to make the difference. This accomplishment is all the more commendable since producers in South Africa are facing major difficulties in terms of energy. Despite all the obstacles, they have managed to provide us with a great quality this year.”
In 2021, 40 tons of Lovita® plums from South Africa were marketed. This year, no less than 60 tons are expected in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. The South-African production has evolved hand in hand with the commercial development of the Lovita. “We observe an increasing demand for these particular plums. Our clients are now familiar with them and continue to order them. Last year, sales were very satisfactory. This also comes at a very good time, when fewer fruits are available. Consumers appreciate the exotic flavor and summer freshness that the Lovita® brings in March/April.”
