In January 2023, Mexico's agri-food product exports were led by berry exports, which surpassed beer and tequila exports, which normally lead this segment.
According to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) and Grupo Consultor de Mercados AgrÃcolas (GCMA), in the first month of the year, the country's berry exports (of fresh or frozen strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, among other berries) totaled 374 million dollars. Meanwhile, beer exports decreased to 348 million dollars and tequila exports totaled 292 million dollars.
Tomato ranked fourth in January 2023, with sales of 265 million dollars, according to GCMA.
Avocado exports fell to fifth place, despite increased exports for the Super Bowl, dropping from $339 million in January 2022 to $254 million in January of this year.
According to Banxico and GCMA, in January 2023, exports from the agri-food sector totaled 3.893 billion dollars, i.e. 8.27% more than in the same period of last year. Imports grew by 25.5% to $3.624 billion, leaving a surplus of $269 million.
