Daniel Badger - VitaFresh Produce

Lime market starting to pick up

The UK lime season is staring to look much better after a tough few months of oversupply.

Daniel Badger from Vitafresh Produce said that back in December Brazil sent much higher volumes than had been expected and the market crashed.

“It has started to look better in the last couple of weeks as supply has dropped and prices are firming up again. At the moment it is difficult to get good limes as there has been a lot of rain in Brazil which has created a shortage. We have got some nice very green limes in just now, which is what the UK market wants.”

Demand typically picks up at this time of year and there is an English bank holiday as well as Easter combined with a bit of better weather.

Vitafresh supply limes year round from Dominican Republic, Columbia, Peru and Mexico as well as Brazil. They mainly supply wholesale but said there has also been interest from retailers due to the short supply.
