Avocado might become the most traded fruit by 2030

According to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) projections, the avocado will become the most commercialized tropical fruit by 2030. Global exports are predicted to surpass four million tons, above the external sales of mangoes and pineapples, behind only banana.

According to material released by Cepea, in Brazil, avocado production has been growing strongly in recent years, taking the country to occupy the seventh place in the world ranking. Brazil's participation in global fruit exports, however, is still very low – the country is only the 20th largest exporter in the world. And estimates indicate that only 3% of Brazilian production is exported. Brazil's main competitors (Mexico, Colombia, Chile and South Africa) export more than 50% of what they produce.
