Générose, the new tomato developed by ProNatura in collaboration with the MédiTerraBio growers' group, is a variety that “combines all the characteristics of heirloom tomatoes, with its generous flesh, melting texture, juiciness and sweet flavor.”
It is grown exclusively in the southeast of France in unheated greenhouses to “guarantee consumers a tomato with a low carbon impact”, and it is marketed in specialized stores and catering outlets throughout France.
The Générose tomatoes are available on the market from May to October, with a peak between June and late September. The first production was launched in 2017, with trials of different varieties of the “pink, fleshy and tasty tomato” type.
A desire to offer a new variety with good value and satisfactory yields
This new variety launched by ProNatura marks the company's desire to “offer a tomato with good value for money, a variety between the classic tomato that does not taste as good, and the heirloom tomato that is less productive and more expensive. In the current economic context marked by high inflation, the Générose is a variety that stands out thanks to its attractive price and exceptional taste qualities.” Its price is accessible to all, thanks to the great yields the variety generates.
This versatile tomato has an excellent sugar/acid balance and can be eaten cooked or raw, the team says.
