The southern part of India is in the midst of the mango season and sales are really increasing at the moment, says Amit Sharma, owner of fruit trader Fresko Fruits: “We’re currently in the Banganapalle mango season, which originated in the Southern part of India. Sales are looking good as the volumes get going. Sales have doubled compared to a month ago, which means the season is really ramping up right now. There aren’t any trends going on that I can see, everyone is using the same practices they’ve always used and are tackling the season in the usual way.”
As availability of good quality mangoes isn’t as consistent, the price varies on a day-to-day basis, Sharma explains. “The prices for mangoes have been very volatile up until now. Some days prices are up, while other days the prices drop again. The price always depends on the quality and size, as well as the volumes available to the wholesale markets. The mango season in Southern India will soon be winding down, while in the North of India the mango season is just about to start, which will again impact the available volumes in the coming weeks.”
