For the first time in many years, the prices of vegetables in Russia have sharply increased during the summer.
The Russian Federal State Statistics Service recorded an average price of 0.66 euros per kilogram for carrots, which is nearly 20% higher than in June.
Potatoes, one of the main food products in the Russian consumer basket, saw a price increase of almost 23%, rising from 0.36 euros per kilogram in June to over 0.43 euros in July.
According to agricultural producers and sellers, vegetable prices are undergoing abrupt and significant changes. The substantial price growth can be attributed to a shortage of produce due to adverse weather conditions, reducing the cultivation of some types of vegetables, as well as decreased import volumes caused by logistical complexities and restrictions.
