A watermelon-sized avocado goes viral on social media

A giant avocado's pictures have gone viral on Twitter. This avocado is as big as a watermelon and weighs at least 2 kilos.

An average avocado weighs around 200-400 grams, although this varies depending on the variety. However, only 70% of an avocado (i.e. 140-280 grams) is edible.

This avocado is of the "Butter" variety (Persea americana var. Drymifolia) and it was planted in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. This avocado variety is usually two times bigger than the popular Hass avocado. In this case, however, it is about five times larger.
