New label for Mexico’s late season extra-large mangoes

For just six weeks out of the year, the end-of-season Keitt mango variety is available. Grown in Mexico’s latest mango region North Sinaloa, the 2023 season for Mexican Keitt mangos officially began the second week of August and is projected to last several weeks into September, depending on Mother Nature. What’s unique about this variety is that it tends to grow bigger as these mangoes are the last ones on the trees in Mexico. “The fruit is sizing beautifully – we’ll have an abundance of larger mangoes, trending towards 5/6s,” says Daniel Ibarra, President of Splendid By Porvenir.

“This last variety allows the Mexican mango season to continue flourishing until the end of September, perhaps early October,” Ibarra commented. “Presently, we find ourselves in the most exciting moment of the season. The northwest region of the country is witnessing exceptional mango production, underscoring a compelling proposition for retailers by ensuring a robust and dependable supply. In effect, Keitts extend the Mexican season and offer retailers the advantage of staying in Mexico before moving to the offshore mango season.”

In addition to its large size, another benefit of the variety is that it is shipped from North Sinaloa. “This is a Fly Free Fruit zone, which means a hot water treatment doesn’t need to be applied. It’s a significant benefit as the fruit holds up better without the treatment,” Ibarra commented. This year, estimated shipments of the Keitt variety are one of the highest in recent years from Northern Sinaloa. “It’s an area that certainly holds its own in terms of mango volume and has developed a name for itself as a prominent agricultural region around the world.” Splendid By Porvenir finds itself in a unique position as the company owns 50 percent of North Sinaloa’s end-of-season mango crop.

Largest mangos on the market
In the midst of the 2023 Keitt mango season, Splendid By Porvenir proudly unveils its latest new product: the Keitt Kong mango label. “This label signifies the pinnacle of this year’s mango harvest – a selection of the largest mangos on the market,” shared Ibarra. “They have been meticulously cultivated under optimal conditions with the most stringent quality control measures applied.”

“We decided to finally educate our customers on the difference between regular Red Mangoes and Extra-Large Mangoes,” says Cindy Schwing, VP of Marketing. The Keitt Kong label includes eye catchy new packaging, digital and social media ads along with website development. “Our creative team has done an amazing job with the creation of the new Keitt Kong label, allowing Splendid to showcase these renowned mangoes.” Coupled with this in the field will be hyped retail programs featuring Keitt Kong mangoes and their wonderful attributes. “This king of mangoes is the ultimate way to close out the year with a bang,” proudly commented Carlos Ferniza, who directly supervised the creation of the new label.
