Capitalizing on organic grape experience

For Awe Sum Organics, there are a few things it looks forward to at this year’s IFPA Global show. This includes connecting with new and existing customers, industry leaders and partners along with showcasing its 100 percent organic product line, including grapes, kiwis, blueberries, pears, citrus, avocados, bananas and apples.

“This show allows us to grow our organic visibility for all our commodities, hear from our retail partners about their new developments and challenges, and, ideally, discover opportunities for collaboration,” said Brianna Posner of Awe Sum.

The company's premium organic table grape season runs from December through April.

The company began growing organic grapes 18 years ago in Peru to supply organic red and green seedless table grapes and its premium organic table grape season runs from December through April. Its history of importing organic table grapes from the Southern Hemisphere helps provide customers with a continuous and reliable supply via loading options on both coasts.

In addition, it also offers organic Peruvian blueberries. “Our blueberries are imported on express ships with direct service and short transit time to both coasts. We offer blueberries in 6-ounce clamshells, pints, 18-ounce clamshells and more with packing capabilities including private labels,” said Posner. “We’re anticipating a fantastic blueberry season with delicious varieties.”

A year-round supply of organic kiwi from its growers in the Southern and Northern Hemispheres is another one of its commodities. In the summer months, its green kiwi is sourced from Zespri and Chilean kiwi growers and the company continues to increase its supply of organic Gold Kiwi and organic Zespri SunGold Kiwi given increasing sales. “The kiwi is harvested at the ideal dry matter and brix levels for peak flavor and perfect ripening,” said Posner, noting it offers Fair Trade USA-certified organic kiwi from October through June.

In citrus, Awe Sum offers organic oranges and lemons via California's coastal and central valley regions. While lemons will be available in September, starting with the Eureka variety and then moving into the Lisbon variety, oranges will begin in October with Valencias. The product will then transition to the Fukamotos, Atwoods/Fishers and then Washingtons in the Spring.

Also starting in 2024, Awe Sum Organics will introduce organic and fair-trade bananas from Ecuador. “Grown in La Concordia, a region known for innovative organic and sustainable growing and handling practices, this will be a year-round steady supply loading on both coasts,” says Posner, adding that its bananas will adhere to color and handling guidelines aligned with the company’s quality standards.
