Preparing for the Global Produce & Floral Show:

From developing a Mexican strawberry program to an expanded import business

IFPA’s Global Produce & Floral Show will be held in two weeks, and the Tom Lange Family of Companies is preparing for the event. The company’s President and CEO, Greg Reinauer, discusses what his group will be highlighting in Anaheim, California from October 19-21. The Tom Lange side of the business serves food retail, food service, as well as wholesale segments. “While the Tom Lange offices are the heartbeat of our family of companies, the Seven Seas and Lange Logistics offices have built some strong partnerships and initiatives that have strengthened our ability to meet customers’ needs throughout the supply chain,” Reinauer said. Although the activities of all three divisions are very different, they complement each other.

Mexican strawberry program
For the last six years, the Seven Seas-Watsonville group (California) has been developing a vertically integrated Mexican strawberry program. “It has translated into a robust strawberry supply program,” says Greg Reinauer with Tom Lange / Seven Seas. “Our growers are on the forefront of sustainability, incorporating different growing techniques to improve water and land conservation as well as carbon emissions. Both the Mexico and California operations are continuously improving their operations to not only improve sustainability but also improve packaging recyclability and their carbon footprint,” Reinauer shared.

Expansion of import business
On the East Coast, the Seven Seas – New Jersey office has cultivated an import business over the past 15+ years. “Not only has the business seen growth in the number of countries it sources from, but also in the variety of products they are able to provide to their customers. “With a long history in citrus, the relationships we have in South Africa, Morocco, and South America have given us a foundation of growers that provide us the ability to source product all year long,” shared Reinauer.

With products being sourced around the country and arriving at multiple ports of entry, Lange Logistics is the go-to transportation source, both internally and outside the company. “Lange Logistics is a 3PL, and our logistics experts are trained in specific regions. They have the ability to provide full, LTL, or intermodal movements,” Reinauer said.

The three divisions are excited to come together in Anaheim with industry colleagues and friends. “We are looking forward to engaging in discussions that benefit our family of companies and the overall produce industry.”
