An almost all female led pineapple exporting company from Panama, Tropical Fruit Company, is taking advantage of the current lower volumes from supplying countries says its leader, Dora Espinoza. “The current demand is on the rise since the largest exporting countries do not have enough volumes to supply current demand. It is expected that from the end of November the pineapple will present a demand at its maximum splendor and this will continue until the end of February when the largest exporters have availability again, in the meantime we can take advantage of this window from Panama.”
Dora Espinosa, leader of the Tropical Fruit Company in Panama.
Espinoza says they export the pineapples to the US and Europe in compliance with international standards, but with an enhanced focus on the environment and people. “In Panama we have focused on production with greater commitment to the workforce with ethical practices. Our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment, application of the best agricultural practices to offer a fresh, safe and high quality product, taking advantage of the benefits such as climate, strategic location, experienced workforce. We are a company with an agroexport vocation with an average operation of more than 16 years. We are aiming at market niches that recognize these efforts and that are a differentiating factor, we are medium-sized producers with the objective of respecting human beings and our environment with a quality product.”
She says Tropical Fruit Company are the only agro-exporter that is led by a woman and that the majority of management positions are headed by women in Panama. Espinosa is happy to share that their hard work as a team of women leaders have been recognized by Panama’s Government.
“On October 8, they gave us a plaque and medal for first place as Best Large Producer 2023, it was handed over by President Laurentino Cortizo and the Ministry of Agricultural Development, which fills us with pride and is the result of the hard work of a great work team of women and men who share values such as gender equity, empowerment of women, teamwork, mutual respect for the human being as a whole and the environment, passion for what we do, empower employees, inclusiveness, prevention and mitigation of risk of accidents and above all committed to the safety and quality of fresh pineapple.” Espinoza was happy that she could show off their pineapples as an exhibitor at the Propanama country pavilion held at Fruit Attraction in Madrid earlier this month.
