Peruvian grapes arrive in Japan for first time

Last week, Peru's Ambassador to Japan, Roberto Seminario, welcomed the first shipment of Peruvian grapes imported by Fresh del Monte Japan. The company plans to acquire 60 containers as an initial test.

This shipment consolidates the opening of the Japanese market for Peruvian grapes, which is the outcome of joint work by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Agrarian Development (through the National Agricultural Health Service - Senasa), and of Foreign Trade-Tourism.

The Japanese market is now open for the consumption of 26 varieties of Peruvian grapes —one of the most successful fruits in Peru's exportable supply. In 2022, grape exports to 53 foreign markets amounted to US$1.362 billion —an 8.9% growth compared to the previous year.

It is important to mention that fresh Peruvian grapes enjoy tariff-free access to Japan, under the Japan-Peru Economic Partnership Agreement (on a seasonal basis) and under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
