Successful apple harvest season in Yakima, Washington

Although Yakima’s apple harvest still has about one month to go, so far, it's been a successful one. Jon DeVaney, the president at the Washington State Tree Fruit Association, stated: "We've had a great growing season and so far, the harvest season has been going very well. We've had excellent weather for growing a beautiful apple crop, the harvest has been progressing smoothly."

According to DeVaney, the weather wasn't the greatest the past two years for harvesting, and the weather this year was something they really needed.

"Really been an ideal growing year, which we've needed after the last two years," DeVaney said. "In 2021 we had high heat, in 2022 we had a cold spring that resulted in a much smaller crop, so we've bounced back to a little bit within the high end of our normal range of apple crop sizes."

The weather has been much better for this year's harvest despite colder and wet weather coming soon, which could affect the crops.
