Consumer price data from Rosstat indicates that cabbage prices in the Rostov region have surged by 100% in the past year, making it the vegetable with the steepest increase in cost compared to others. This trend is observed across the entire Russia.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the price of white cabbage has increased nationwide, with an average price hike of more than 70%. If the price per kilogram was 0.25 euros in the summer of 2022, it reached 0.46 euros in August 2023.
The average price of white cabbage in Rostov is currently around 0.3 euros per kilogram. At the same time, the cost in some online stores reaches 1 euro.
Experts attribute the significant price surge to expensive imported seeds, currency exchange rate fluctuations, and transportation/logistics costs. Additionally, fertilisers and chemicals have also experienced substantial price increases over the past year.
