Zespri in Paris

French SunGold volumes on the rise

Last year was particularly difficult for European Zespri growers due to extreme weather conditions, but in 2023, “the orchards are bouncing back with very promising volumes expected.” The French and Italian production of SunGold yellow kiwis went up by 25% compared to 2022 (+33% and +22% for France and Italy, respectively), thanks to favorable weather conditions and new orchards coming into production.

Marketed since the beginning of November, SunGold kiwis should be present on French shelves until the first half of 2024. Zespri thus continues to strengthen its European production and extend its presence in stores throughout the year.

SunGold kiwis are produced in France, in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, by 100 growers on 340 hectares. Italy has 1,000 growers on 2,700 hectares (Emilia-Romagna and Lazio).

Promotional operation at Paris Saint-Lazare station
“The steady increase in volumes produced each year in Europe confirms that yellow kiwis have clearly found their place on the French market,” according to Zespri, which organized a promotional operation at the Saint-Lazare train station in Paris last week to mark the start of the campaign. On the program: mascot, giant mural, distribution of SunGold yellow kiwis and goodies! Zespri is also stepping up its communication campaign with digital posters and increased presence on social networks.
