According to Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, during the last four years, Mexico has been the world's eighth-biggest exporter of fresh blueberries with sales worth 490 million dollars and a 15.5% average annual growth rate.
The federal agency indicated that the United States was the main destination for Mexican blueberry exports, with a 94.9% share and a 16.1% average annual growth rate.
According to data from the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), Japan was the second destination with a 2.2% share and a 2.4% average annual growth rate. It's followed by Canada with a 0.6% share and a 2.4% average annual growth rate.
In the last four years, the country mainly imported cranberries from the United States, with an average of 36.4 million dollars and an average annual growth rate of 8.3%.
The Ministry also stated that in the 2018-2022 period, Mexico produced 54.6 thousand tons of blueberries on average and had a 13.5% average annual growth rate. Jalisco positioned itself as the leading producer accounting for 49.7% of the national total and with a 15.5% annual growth rate. It was followed by Michoacan with an 18.8% share and a 16.5% average growth.
