Growers from Jundiaí have already started harvesting the Niagara Rosada Jundiahy Grape, the first after the fruit received the Geographical Indication from the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), in the Indication of Origin category. Local production is monitored by the Agribusiness, Supply and Tourism Unit (UGAAT), of Jundiaí City Hall, through various farmer promotion programs.
The Jundiahy Geographical Indication is the 102nd Brazilian one registered with INPI. Eduardo Alvarez, manager of the Agribusiness, Supply and Tourism Management Unit (UGAAT) of Jundiaí City Hall: “The Niagara Rosada de Jundiahy Grape already had a differentiator in the market. Now, we have a national certificate and it will improve demand for our product.”
This year’s grape harvest ended up being brought forward by around 20 days, mainly due to excessive rain and very hot days.
