Ecuador puts itself in spotlight at New York Produce Show

The Trade Office of Ecuador in New York exhibited at the New York Produce Show December 5-7, 2023 in New York City, New York. ”It is our responsibility to spotlight Ecuadorian exporters to the U.S. market,” said Juan Pablo Cuesta, trade commissioner for Ecuador’s Trade Office in New York. “Participating in the show and presenting several Ecuadorian export companies to the industry has been a great resource for us. As U.S. trade with Latin American countries increases, the demand from U.S. consumers for new products is also on the rise. Ecuadorian tropical produce growers are prepared to fill the demands of the U.S. market with several fresh new commodities.”

The United States is a key trading commercial partner to Ecuador. Ecuador has already increased imports of fruits and vegetables by 11 percent for each category - January through October 2022 over 2023, according to USDA/FAS statistics.

Ecuador had six exporters showcasing their best products to the Northeast and beyond buying region at the show. These exporters exhibited fresh dragon fruit (red and yellow), fresh herbs, granadilla, yucca, malanga, tomate de arbol, cacao and many other tropical and exotic offerings.

Ecuadorian exporters felt that participating in the show helped create awareness and promoted their products to an important market. They gained knowledge of the buying market by meeting with several new contacts that would expand their exports to various U.S. ports and other countries. They also felt that the benefits of exhibiting allowed them to obtain broader visibility and expand operations within new markets by creating strategic partnerships with potential clients.

“Ecuadorian exporters must be present at the show and share their fresh commodities, product knowledge and benefits with the U.S. buying marketers,” said Cuesta. “The Trade Office of Ecuador considers it significant to participate in produce industry events to convey knowledge, availability and nutritional benefits of our fresh produce.”

The Trade Office of Ecuador in New York will be organizing produce mission trips and inviting buyers and produce industry professionals to acquaint themselves with the tropical climates, growing regions/ conditions and best practices of agricultural trade with Ecuador.
