Frutas de Chile's Table Grape Commission has released its third export estimate for the 2023/2024 production season. According to it, the export volume will exceed 62,461,069 boxes, i.e. 3.3% more than in the previous season (2022-2023).
"While this new forecast is 1.9% lower than the committee's second forecast, which was released in November, new varieties are expected to account for 64% of total grape exports. This is an important increase compared to last season, in which they accounted for nearly 50% of all exports. It also showcases the sector's efforts to cultivate the grapes that the markets expect to receive, which are also better adapted to the productive conditions of each area where they are produced," stated Ivan Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile.
“North America, which last season accounted for 50% of all shipments, will continue to be our main market with 57% of total shipments this season," stated Ignacio Caballero, coordinator of the Table Grape Committee.
Chile will export 39,665,392 boxes of new grape varieties, 13,066,525 boxes of traditional varieties, and 9,729,152 boxes of Red Globe grapes. The new red varieties that will grow the most will be Candy Hearts, Jack Salute, and Sweet Celebration. When it comes to white grapes, Autumn Crisp, Sweet Globe, and Cotton Candy stand out. The black grapes that are expected to have the best performance are the Sweet Favors, Sable, Midnight Beauty, and Sweet Sapphire varieties.
Red varieties would lead the total shipments of Chilean table grapes with 24,257,786 boxes, followed by white grapes with 22,523,428 boxes, Red Globe grapes with 9,729,152 boxes, and black grapes with 5,950,703 boxes.
