New varieties of blueberries unveiled by onubafruit at Fruit Logística

At Fruit Logistica, onubafruit showcased five blueberry varieties, namely Demba, Sana, Selma, Aila, and FV1905, marking a significant stride in their production capabilities. Francisco Sánchez, the company's manager, highlighted these varieties are already yielding excellent results.

Predominantly, onubafruit's berries find their market in Europe, comprising nearly 99% of its international sales, with the remainder in Asia. Sánchez pointed out the current campaign's dependency on rainfall, expressing concern over the lack of governmental action in Huelva regarding water infrastructure, such as desalination plants.

The company's production includes approximately 25 million kilos each of strawberries and blueberries, 8 million kilos of raspberries, along with citrus and other products. Despite production challenges, including restrictions on chemical use, Sánchez noted favorable market prices due to high demand and limited supply. Notably, onubafruit leads globally in marketing berries free from nitrate contamination, a feat achieved through SCA Costa Huelva's innovative monitoring and control of irrigation and nitrogen fertilizers.
