Record-breaking temperatures could hurt apple crop in NY state

In the west of New York state, the unseasonably warm weather is causing apprehension among apple growers regarding the future of their crops. LynOaken Farms' U-Pick manager, Katie Oakes, and president & farm manager, Christopher Oakes, have expressed their worries. The warmth has led to premature sprouting of green leaves on apple trees, a phenomenon occurring roughly four weeks earlier than usual.

This situation poses a significant threat to the harvest, potentially impacting the availability of apples for fall picking, an activity cherished by many. The unpredictability of weather conditions adds to the challenges faced by growers in ensuring a successful apple yield.
