Three PEI farmers unite to host potato giveaway

Three local farms are teaming up for yet another Fill Your Boots Event, inviting residents of Prince Edward Island, Canada to choose free potatoes directly from the farms' potato storages. The event promises to build upon the resounding success of similar events held over the past two years.

Monaghan Farms (23402 Rte 2, Norboro) and Spud Isle Farms (1651 Greenwich Road, Saint Peters Bay) have joined forces with G. Visser and Sons (6346 Trans-Canada Hwy, Orwell Cove) with support from the PEI Potato Board. The event takes place on Saturday, March 9th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Participants are encouraged to bring a bucket, bag, boot or any other creative means of storage to fill with as many potatoes as they can carry. While the potatoes are free for the taking, the farms invite attendees to bring along a donation for the local food bank if they are able, recognizing the pressing needs of many in the community.

Since the first event in 2022, six Island farms have opened their doors, welcoming over 6,500 visitors who collected over 200,000 lbs of potatoes.

This initiative goes beyond just providing free potatoes. It's an opportunity for Islanders to connect with local farmers and gain insight into the intricacies of farming. Since the first event in 2022, six Island farms have opened their doors, welcoming over 6,500 visitors who collected over 200,000 lbs of potatoes. The farms also raised $14,000 for local food banks.

"We are thrilled to host "Fill your Boots" again this year," said event founder Randy Visser of G Visser and Sons. "This event allows us to connect with our fellow islanders around a big pile of potatoes. It will be a great time all around and everybody goes home with full boots and we give the food banks a boost as well."
