Growing volume of jackfruit ahead

This month, there should be enough volume in the exotic commodity of jackfruit to meet the demand for it. "Compared to March of last year, we have more volume on jackfruit this year," says Magaly Rosales, sales and product development for Cabello Fresh Produce LLC.

Jackfruit is coming from Mexico. "It comes from the West Coast of Nayarit where the climate is warmer and the growing conditions are very fertile and there is a lot of water for irrigation," says Rosales. The season in this region started on time in February and it is expected to end in August.

Jackfruit consumption increasing
Meanwhile, demand has been good for the fruit and there is hope that the demand will grow as the weather warms up across the country. "The consumption of jackfruit is increasing every year," says Rosales. "It is a fruit we believe will continue to increase in demand over the next few years. It is a very versatile fruit that can be used in different ways so we must continue to support the health research around it and thus be able to reach the consumer in all kinds of ways."

As for pricing, it is similar to last year's pricing. "Looking ahead for the next few weeks, the sales of jackfruit and the volume should increase," adds Rosales.
