Colombia's National Police intercepted approximately 1.7 tons of cocaine concealed within an avocado consignment. The operation took place at the Port of Santa Marta, situated nearly 600 miles north of Bogotá.
The director general of the National Police of Colombia, William René Salamanca Ramírez, disclosed the seizure via a post on X, highlighting the destination of the shipment as Setúbal, Portugal, located roughly 30 miles south of Lisbon. Colombia, recognized by the Drug Enforcement Administration as the foremost producer of cocaine, contributes to 70 to 80% of the global supply. This activity generates an estimated $400 million in revenue weekly from cocaine production.
