On April 30th, U.S. Ambassador Manuel McCallar and CEO of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Kishvar Abdulalishoev visited one of fifteen climate-controlled fruit storage facilities in the Rasht district of Tajikistan.
These facilities are the result of a joint initiative between USAID and AKF, utilizing Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles. In collaboration with 13 partners, 15 climate-controlled fruit storage facilities have been successfully constructed, with each partner contributing 50% of the total project budget.
The project aims to unite farmers growing premium apples and pears under a single brand. The primary objectives include knowledge and experience exchange, reducing production costs, improving marketing skills, and facilitating entry into markets with higher added value, both domestically and internationally.
