OP Tarulli obtains another organic certification

Organic table grapes: the largest European group is getting ready for the new season

The interest for organic table grapes has grown in various European countries. OP Tarulli, the leading producer of organic table grapes on the continent with a sales calendar that goes from July to mid-December and over 20 supermarket chains involved, is well aware of it.

"The start of the new season is just a few weeks' away, but we are at work to guarantee and plan supplies. 80% of our grapes are sold in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The remaining part reaches north-European countries instead, especially Denmark. The interest is growing from France and Poland as well. As for the domestic market, unfortunately we are not managing to stand out as we are doing abroad. Supplying Italian supermarkets would please us greatly, but so far quantities have been marginal and non-homogeneous. Our vineyards cover 300 hectares, plus there are 100 hectares owned by our partners. It is not easy to grow organic produce, especially with the changing climate, but our wish to stand out always paid off," explains Marilena Daugenti Tarulli, sales manager of the Apulian company.

OP Tarulli operates in NoicĂ ttaro (Bari) and boasts a wide range of varieties. It harvests grapes five months a year (July to November), but sales can extend to the Christmas holidays thanks to cold storage. "We have registered a 20-30% drop in volumes for early varieties. As for medium-late ones, we still cannot make an assessment, but volumes will not be abundant."

Gruppo Tarulli, which holds the Bio Suisse and Demeter certifications, has recently obtained another certification - Naturland - which guarantees that the production meets strict ecological and social requirements. The PO also follows the BRC, IFS, GlobalGAP and Grasp protocols.
