Peruvian fresh lemon exports have maintained a positive pace since the beginning of 2024, exceeding $5 million in monthly shipments. In the first quarter of the year, Peru exported 15,540 tons of lemon, which generated $15.7 million in revenue. This is 10% more volume and 5% more value than in the same period of the previous year, according to FreshFruit data.
Despite this growth, the average price decreased by 4% and stood at $1.01 per kilogram, limiting the export value increase. Peru exported its lemon to 15 countries. The main destination markets were the United States with a 54% share, Chile with 11.5%, and the Dominican Republic with 11.4%. The latter climbed two positions over the previous year and displaced Panama and the United Kingdom from the top 3.
Peru exported 8,077 tons of lemon valued at $8.5 million to the United States, representing a 9% increase in volume, but a 4% decrease in value due to the 12% drop in the price per kilogram.
In contrast, shipments to Chile decreased by 12% in volume but increased by 1% in value thanks to a 15% increase in the price per kilogram.
Exports to the Dominican Republic increased by 109% in volume and 93% in value over the previous year. However, the average price fell by 8%.
