Hely Nugen - H.S IIC Company

"We are looking to expand exports to Australia and New Zealand"

Vietnamese exporter H.S IIC Company have been in business since 2018, the main export products are coconut and dragon fruit, grown in the south of the country mostly in Ben Tre Province and Long An Province.

"We source coconuts and dragon fruit from local growers, which we then pack on our premises before exporting them to our customers. We have been exporting to Australia since 2021 with small volumes, and we are looking to start exports to New Zealand as well as increasing exports to Australia," explains Hely Nguyen, manager at the company.

"In preparation we consult with our growers to ensure they can supply the increased volumes, we always look for long-term partnerships to ensure we can rely on the quality and volumes we require. Each month, we can export at least 2, 40 foot containers."

Coconut
The company exports two types of coconut. Diamond Coconuts: take their name from the way they are cut, these come from the Ben Tre/Tien Giang Province which is the best place in Vietnam for growing them. This area produces coconuts year-round as the climate is very warm and has plenty of rain.

Easy-Open Coconuts: the coconut's shell has been removed and an easy-open key is inserted so that consumers can open it like a can, therefore there is no need to cut it. The coconuts can also be engraved with a company name if required.

"There are many chemicals which can be used to keep the coconut shell fresh and white for a long time. However, choosing the right type of quality food additives that are recognized around the world for food safety in order to export is extremely difficult. We only use approved, food grade preservative agents with full certificates in the list of the International Standards on food safety."

"Coconut selection is extremely important and requires professional technicians to choose the best coconuts to shave. If the coconuts are not selected properly, there will be a high risk in the process of cutting and shaving, and may lead to the coconuts cracking. We only choose coconuts that are export standards."

"The shaving process also requires a professional eye, and we ensure our workers are experienced and can work with high productivity to fill the orders. Our coconuts are wrapped, stamped and put in crates before be being put into cold storage."

The coconuts can be packed to customer's specifications and in their own branded boxes.

Passion fruit
Due to the modern growing techniques in Vietnam, dragon fruit can potentially be grown year -round. "It has been a very good growing season for our dragon fruit. We supply two different varieties of the fruit, the white dragon fruit and the red dragon fruit. The dragon fruit is packed in boxes of 6/9pcs (4,5kg-5kg/box).

"Some parts of Vietnam have been affected by drought in recent months, but our local farmers have been doing this for more than 20 years so they are experts and the weather in the south of Vietnam has not been as harsh as in other places, so if we take an order we will make sure the products which come to clients are the best."
