A delegation from Guatemala, led by the Governor of Peten, Mauricio José Acevedo Sandoval, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for the Peten Department Elmer Leonel Salazar Mejía, and the Chief of the Peten Agriculture Department Juan Carlos Barquín, embarked on a two-day exploration of Belize's citrus industry. The visit, aimed at garnering comprehensive insights into the nursery operations, field production, and processing facilities within the citrus sector, concluded with an insightful tour of key facilities.
During their visit, the delegation had the opportunity to explore a citrus factory, the CPVL plant, and a nursery. The final stop was at the Citrus Growers Association nursery, where they gained valuable insights into the history, cultivation, and management practices of the association. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) stated that the visit highlighted advanced techniques and innovations in citrus production and processing, fostering a fruitful exchange of knowledge and potential collaborations between the Guatemalan delegation and the Belize citrus industry.
MAFSE noted the visit's significance as the first bilateral meeting hosted with the new Guatemalan government, reflecting a shared interest in agricultural development and collaboration.
