Kyrgyzstan leverages natural advantages and innovative technologies to boost berry exports

Kyrgyzstan plans to boost berry exports to $1 billion

Kyrgyzstan possesses unique natural conditions, including abundant sunlight, water, and a mountainous climate. On June 19, the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture head and Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev highlighted these advantages during the forum "Berries of Kyrgyzstan: The first export product worth $1 billion."

He noted significant interest from other countries in Kyrgyzstan's berries. Consequently, the ministry aims to increase berry exports to $1 billion. According to him, steps are being developed and implemented which include purchasing planting materials, using innovative technologies, and introducing high-yield berry varieties.

"We also intend to create new and expand the capacities of existing processing facilities, especially cold storage units, which will reduce the loss of perishable products such as strawberries. Currently, our processing rate is around 5%, and storage is less than 10%. Our goal is to reach approximately 34% processing and storage by 2030," he stated.

Efforts include providing benefits to processors, training farmers in advanced methods, and expanding export opportunities by opening new markets. The government is also incentivizing the use of drip irrigation systems.
