KwaZulu-Natal's largest commercial berry farm heads to auction

Broll Auctions and Sales is set to auction KwaZulu-Natal's largest commercial berry farm, located in the Midlands' Mount Verde Estate in Hilton, on Thursday 11 July at The Wanderers Club in Sandton. Timothy Counsell, a broker at Broll Auctions and Sales, highlighted the BerryGrow estate's development as a blueberry and avocado farm, emphasizing its appeal to investors interested in the agricultural sector.

The farm, established in 2019 by Gary Pedlar and Warren Haviside, features 81,000 blueberry bushes over 23 hectares and a six-hectare orchard of 1,900 Lamb Hass avocado trees. It benefits from proximity to the N3 highway, facilitating access to key logistics for both fresh and frozen produce. BerryGrow holds GlobalG.A.P accreditation and operates a fully equipped pack house, supporting its export activities to the EU, UAE, Singapore, and Malaysia. With the local blueberry industry growing by 39% annually since 2008 and exports expected to increase by 10% in the 2024 season, the farm's upcoming harvest is anticipated to be lucrative.
