"Price of cucumbers keeps pace with sizing, pepper market stable despite increased supply"

Sales in the greenhouse vegetable market are coming along nicely, says product manager greenhouse vegetables Peter Fes of StC. "The biggest demand comes from retail, but due to the nice weather, day trade is also picking up a bit now. For instance, the cucumber market remains fairly stable. Prices are actually quite similar to length. For instance, the price of the 40'ers is around 40 cents, the 35'ers are selling for 35 cents and the price of the 30 grades is also around 30 cents."

"The weekly prices also remain fairly stable now, so that's quite a difference from a few weeks ago when cucumbers were auctioned for 6 cents. I don't see the cucumber price going down immediately, either. Traditional cucumber growers are now coming into full production and by the middle of next week the first high-wire exchangers will also be back, but if the weather turns out to be nice, I don't see prices going back down. A rise to 60-70 cents won't happen either, but a stable market should be possible," Peter expects.

"The price of eggplants has also gone up rapidly. The price of TOVs lagged a bit behind a long time, but that has now also picked up a bit. The pepper market has been stable for a fortnight now. Prices of red peppers are around €9.50-10.00 per box. Substantial production is expected for next week, but if America keeps doing so well, I don't see that market dropping either. Despite the increased numbers, everyone is basically sold out every day. We do see now that the green peppers from Poland are being offered significantly cheaper and at the end of next week the first coloured ones from Poland will also follow, so the price of Dutch peppers won't go up immediately either."
