Jesús Fons from Tresfrut:

"It's very positive for family business methods to be better appreciated than those of the big companies"

The good practices of traders are highly appreciated by the whole chain, and they make a difference for the key link in the industry: the growers. They are precisely the ones who have picked the Spanish company Tresfrut as the most valued trader for an award organized by Naranjasyfrutas.com, in a year which has not been easy for citrus growers.

"We are very excited to have received this award from the producers themselves, who have shown us their appreciation after such a difficult season and such a struggle," says Jesús Fons. "The truth is that traders were caught out by the drop in prices from the second part of the season onwards, with fruit that we had bought at a higher price than the market was paying, so the award is justly appreciative of the fact that the conditions of the contracts made with the growers have been respected, including the prices and harvesting deadlines. We are very happy about the growers who voted, recognizing Tresfrut for its good practices in the purchase and sale of fruit."

"Especially now, at a time when large funds are increasingly venturing into the agricultural business, it is great news that the working methods of a family company like ours have been awarded."

Tresfrut was founded in 1984 by three partners who decided to join forces and set up this trader specializing in citrus fruits. "My father Jesús Fons, Carlos Siscar and a third partner from Bilbao started it forty years ago and today Andreu, Carlos' son, and I are the second generation at the helm of the project. Since then, Tresfrut has been working with the brand Andarín, which has been synonymous with quality produce since the 1980s," says Jesús. "We have continued to work just like our parents did."

Juan José Bas, CEO of Naranjasyfrutas.com, has given the sector the opportunity to express its satisfaction with traders in this second edition of the awards, highlighting the importance of good practices in buying and selling, regardless of the context and the development of each season.

"For us, this award confirms that providing a more personal treatment still makes a difference. We have just had a difficult season in which the shortage of fruit has played against us and everything points to things remaining challenging next season. We will continue working in the way that growers have rewarded, although we in the sector should also strive to be more united, to be more cooperative and to combine our synergies for our common good."
