The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has disclosed a 29.8 percent uplift in the value of Iran's agricultural and food product exports for the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-June 20), compared to the same period last year. Concurrently, the volume of these exports surged by approximately 24 percent. From the onset of the current year until May 20, Iran exported 1,562,000 tons of agricultural commodities, valued at $684 million, marking a 28 percent year-on-year increase in value. This compares to the 1,260,000 tons, worth $536 million, exported during the corresponding period the previous year.
Leading the export chart in value were apples ($96.3 million), in-shell pistachios ($74.1 million), watermelons ($73.8 million), field tomatoes ($50.3 million), and greenhouse tomatoes ($44.7 million). Agro-food products constituted approximately 6.66 percent of the total export weight and 8.53 percent of the overall export value for Iran in this timeframe. The previous Iranian calendar year saw a 22.5 percent increase in the value of these exports, totaling about $6.3 billion, as per Ruhollah Latifi, spokesperson for the International Relations and Trade Development Committee of Iran's House of Industry, Mining, and Trade. Agro-food products represented 12.8 percent of Iran's total non-oil exports last year, with Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Russia being the top importers of these products from Iran.
