Syngenta has announced that it will invest 9.6 million euros to expand and equip its R&D facilities in the Spanish municipality of El Ejido with the latest technology. The announcement was made at a meeting held with the urban planning council and the mayor of El Ejido and representatives of Syngenta's facilities in the town.
In the words of José Manuel Zapata, director of Syngenta's research centers in Almeria and Murcia: "This investment will give new life to Almeria's rural environment and strengthen the province's already recognized international leadership in the development of cutting-edge technologies in plant breeding and protection."
Last year, the company announced a 2.4 million euro investment in the expansion of its R&D centers in Almeria and Murcia. With this latest one, Syngenta shows that it remains committed to promoting innovation in new technologies aimed at boosting productivity and allowing producers to make a sustainable profit.
The aim of this major investment is to provide the center with new facilities and expand the existing lines of research. To this end, a new Plant Innovation Center will be built. In this new facility, research activities will be carried out on different crops, both in greenhouses and in the open ground. The aim is for this R&D center to become a global leader for leafy vegetable crops, tomato, pepper, cucumber, zucchini and melon.
The announcement was made at the El Ejido Town Hall, where representatives of the company shared all the details of the investment with Mayor Francisco Góngora, who pointed out that "it is great news that a leading international company has decided to build this innovation center in Spain, and specifically in El Ejido."
