U.S. almond shipments reached 226.1 million pounds in May

In the US, the almond and pistachio industries experienced contrasting shipment trends during May. According to the Blue Diamond Almonds Market Report, almond shipments reached 226.1 million pounds in May, marking a 16 percent increase from the previous year and representing the second-strongest May on record. Domestic almond shipments saw a modest 1 percent increase from the previous month, culminating in a 19 percent rise year-over-year, with total exports also rising by 14 percent to 160.4 million pounds despite a 9 percent drop from the preceding month.

Conversely, the pistachio industry faced challenges, as reported by the Meridian Growers' May Pistachio Shipment Report, which highlighted a 16 percent decrease in shipments compared to the same period last year. Nevertheless, year-to-date figures for pistachio shipments have seen a 42 percent increase. While domestic shipments of pistachios showed a slight uptick, the international market remains the dominant consumer, accounting for 80 percent of total pistachio shipments.
